Owais Qarni Rahimahullah

Owais Qarni is only Companion who is being mentioned by Rasoolallah Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam, whom Rasoolallah Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam never met. He is being praised because for his devotion and care for his mother.

The name of Owais Qarni is mentioned in Sahih Muslim. The story is Once the Noble Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam was sitting with his companion in which there was Abu Bakr RadhiAllahu Anho, Umar Ibn Khattab RadhiAllahu Anho and Ali ibn Talib RadhiAllahu Anho. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam said “I will tell you about Owais Al Qarni,." The Companions looked at each other, each trying to recall if they know a man named Owais. They didn’t know that he was talking about a man that they will meet years after the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam's has passed away.
“He is a man of medium height, head held high despite being poor with very dark skin. I can see him putting his right arm on his left arm and weeping as he reads Quran. He is wearing a cloak of poor wool,” said the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam. He would have a sign of illness (leprosy) on his left hand, size of a dirham. He is unknown among the people but known in the skies. His biggest sign is the mother he deeply cares for. When he makes duaa, it is granted."
"Ali and Umar, if you are ever to find this man, ask him to make duaa for you and ask Allah for your forgiveness,” said the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi WaSallam.

Asir ibn Jaabir radhiallahu `anhu narrated:
Whenever people would come from Yemen, `Umar RadhiAllahu Anhu would ask them, “Is Owais Qarni amongst you?” until, one year, he met Owais

He said, “Are you Owais Qarni?” He said, “Yes.”

`Umar continued, “From Muraad, then Qaran?” He said, “Yes.”

`Umar then asked, “Were you once afflicted with leprosy and your skin healed except for a dirham’s area?” Owais said, “Yes.”

`Umar finally asked, “Do you have a mother (that is alive)?” He said, “Yes.”

`Umar then said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah – Sallallahu `Alaihi Wasallam  say, ‘Owais ibn Aamir will come to you with the delegations from Yemen, from Muraad, then from Qaran. He was once afflicted with leprosy and his skin healed except for a dirham’s area He has a mother, and he treats her kindly. If he was to ever swear by Allah (for something) Allah would fulfill his oath. If you can, request that he ask forgiveness for you.”

`Umar then requested from Owais, “Ask forgiveness for me.” And Owais Qarni did.
