Ibn Al Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned great means for attaining the love of Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ :
1. Reciting the Quran with tadabur, pondering and understanding its meaning and what is required from you.
2. Draw closer to Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ through the voluntaries, after the obligations first.
3. Constant remembrance of Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ - whether by tongue, heart, or actions – because the share of love is according to how much you remember Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ, subhan Allah.
4. To give up what you love for what He loves thus overcoming your desires.
5. Your heart is constantly observing and deeply feeling His names, attributes and actions in all of your surroundings.
6. To observe and feel His goodness, favors and blessings upon you – whether it’s apparent or hidden.
7. This is the most amazing one, subhan Allah – your heart breaks between His Hands. You are broken and in need of Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ .
8. To be alone at the time when Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ descends in a manner that suits His majesty, to the lowest heaven in the last third of the night. You recite His book and end it with seeking forgiveness and repentance.
9. To gather with those who love Him and are truthful, to take from the best of their words and don’t speak unless you have weighed the goodness of these words, and know it will benefit you and others.
10. To distance yourself from any means that can place a barrier between your heart and Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ .
Then Ibn Al Qayyim said from these means, those who love Allah ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ reached the level of love, subhan Allah.
